C# Implementation with Wwise and Unity – my video course teaching you how to implement your sounds from Wwise into Unity programmatically with C# – is now available for purchase through October 2nd.
You can buy the course right now by going here: https://adamtcroft.com/csharp-implementation
Today’s short article doesn’t include any lessons, but instead we’re going to cover questions related to the course:
- Who is the course for?
- Who isn’t the course for?
- Frequently Asked Questions about the course
You will receive two additional short emails this week as well, covering:
- The story of why I made the course in the first place and why it’s relevant to you
- A final reminder, with some customer testimonals
And with that, let’s get to answering your questions.
Who is the course for?
In C# Implementation with Wwise and Unity, I assume you’re already proficient with how Wwise works and you’re familiar with the Unity UI. This course does not teach you how to use Wwise or Unity, only how to connect the two with C# programming.
Therefore, you’re an ideal candidate for this course if you have a basic proficiency with both of those softwares and you’re interested in learning how to hook up your own events, RTPCs, Switches, States, etc.
The course walks you through:
- Use C# in useful – not generic – ways
- Integrate Wwise into Unity – both for personal use and how to do it with a professional studio
- Create custom triggers in Unity
- Control Wwise events in-game using C#
- Control Wwise RTPCs with in-game data
- Setting Wwise states with in-game data
- Affecting the Wwise music system through code
- Sending custom messages and debug information to the Wwise Profiler
and more. Technical Sound Designers, plus Sound Designers and Musicians (in addition to those aiming future positions) interested in implementation will benefit from the information in this course!
After going through the included curriculum, you will have more knowledge of programmatic implementation than the vast majority of sound designers in the games industry.
Who isn’t this course for?
Believe it or not, this is actually a significantly bigger category than those who should buy the course! Many of you should definitely ignore this offer without feeling guilty about it. That’s true if:
- You loathe the thought of programming
- You’ve never/barely used Wwise and/or Unity
- You use FMOD or Unreal Engine
- You’re just trying to get another skill for a sound design job that doesn’t require implementation
- You’re afraid of missing out, and buying on impulse
Yes, that covers a lot of you. Truth be told – I want to help improve the lives and careers of everybody more than I’m interested in lining my pocket. If this is a waste of time and money for you, please keep your money.
While this course will definitely make you a better sound designer even if you never code professionally (because you’ll learn how games are built with code!), it’s not a requirement for your sound design or music career unless an employer is interested in these skills.
But, for those employers who are, you’ll be at the very front of the pack.
FAQs
In the last few weeks I’ve had a number of questions pop up about the course – so let me put your questions and concerns to rest!
“I don’t know any programming at all – will this course be over my head?”
While the course doesn’t assume you know any programming, it would be beneficial for you to grab a copy of Begin Audio Scripting with Reaper (buy the Premium edition to get a copy included!) and read through the tutorials here on my site. You don’t need prior programming skills, but they certainly won’t hurt.
“Will this help me with using FMOD and Unity?”
Sadly, I’ve got very limited expertise with FMOD. This course is aimed at Wwise users, and I can pretty confidently say that I wouldn’t expect FMOD and programmatic implementation in FMOD to work the exact same way or with the exact same code. If you exclusively use FMOD, I’d discourage you from buying the course and instead point you to the works of Colin Vandervort and Henry Scott.
“Will this course provide me with a comprehensive understanding of C#?”
No. This course is not intended to be a generic catch-all to teach you all about C#. You will learn, quickly, C# concepts that relate to implementation with Wwise and Unity. Certainly that will cover a large amount of C# and programming basics – but this is not a language comprehensive course. There are free online resources for that!
“This seems really expensive for something I can learn for free online…”
By all means, feel free to gather all the necessary free online resources and spend the time ingesting them all separately and figuring out how to make them all work together. I did a lot of that, and I’d love to see you succeed as well.
But do realize – this course starts at $129. If an entry-level game audio job in a major metropolitan area started at $25/hr (many will pay you more than this) – you would have this course paid off before the end of your first day of work. I don’t know how to explain “good return on investment” any better than that.
“Will you be available to answer questions if I get stuck or my code has bugs?”
Yes. The primary reason the course is not available 24/7 is so that I can personally provide you a high level of customer support.
“Will this focus solely on the programming side of things? Or will Wwise be covered as well?”
This is not a course to teach you how to use Wwise, Unity, or either of their fundamentals. I learned Wwise at School of Video Game Audio (I don’t get paid if you enroll). There’s also plenty of YouTube videos, if you must.
This course will be building on your existing knowledge of both pieces of software in order to bridge the gap to make your sounds work in game.
See You Wednesday
If you’re interested in grabbing a copy of the course, you can do so now. There are a limited number of spots available – to ensure that I can handle customer support well. The course will either be available until the end of October 2nd or all the spots sell out.
Thanks for your time today, and I’ll both see you in the course and later this week!
