Before the world went digital and we longed to fly out electric hover cars like the Jetsons, we all used to exchange physical bits of metal called “coins” whenever we were interested in buying something. Because coins usually represented small amounts of value – such as a penny – you would invariably end up with a small pile of the things (sometimes called “change”) which wouldn’t amount to very much on their own.
But, if you took a phrase like “a penny saved is a penny earned” to heart – that change could build up to much more than you expect.
That’s exactly what happened to Ed Knowles, the owner of an Alabama gas station, who set the United States’ record for largest penny collection with over 1.3 million pennies (that’s over $10,000 in just pennies). The record was verified after a coin counting machine took over 7 hours to count the pennies Knowles had stored in eight large oil barrels!
And while Ed Knowles may be known for saving change, I’m one to savour it. In fact, where and how I create content is about to change, and I want to make sure you know. So let me go over three things for you:
- What exactly, am I changing?
- Why exactly, am I changing it?
- What are you getting out of it right now, today?
In the near future, I’ll be creating fresh content at a new website
That website is called nir.media (pronounced “near media”, stylized as nir*media)- while there’s not a lot going on there yet, but in time, there will be. That means my personal site will change as well. If you take a look at adamtcroft.com you’ll notice that there’s no longer a “splash page” or many places to sign up for my email list.
That’s completely intentional, and part of the migration to this new site. In the future, there won’t be much (if any) new content here on my personal site, and I’ll be directing you to my new nir.media project for everything I put out.
The new project is less about me
While I love sharing my perspectives with you (and that won’t change), I’ve always learned a lot from others. I find the stories, wisdom, and knowledge of other creatives absolutely fascinating and helpful. nir*media’s ethos is to help musicians and sound designers through the knowledge and skills of others, distilled into a simple & easy format.
That means sharing the most incredible wisdom, knowledge, content, and software from some of the most inspiring creatives in the world, and making it simple, straightforward, easy to follow, and easy to use. Practically, that means new styles of content, new formats, as well as projects and products that aren’t just my own.
I expect you to be able to take these things and put your skills, friendships, careers, and projects into hyperdrive extremely fast.
To that end, I’m sharing a new free product with you today
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know I’ve been developing my first plugin for many months now. It’s a bitcrushed tape delay plugin I call Suspension, which is designed to take your perfectly good sounds and make them the best kind of warped and weird.
You can take a listen in a short promotional video here on YouTube.
The delay can be beat-synced or “free” time, and some of the parameters have automatic movement sliders, which allow you to induct a bit of computer-based chaos into your mix.
Most importantly, the plugin is designed to be easily usable and shareable. There’s a “like” button, which allows you to leave feedback. There’s a button that allows you to instantly file a bug report. There’s also a “share” button which will allow you to easily share how to get the plugin with your friends.
It comes in VST format for Mac and Windows, and AU format for Mac as well. Below, I’ll show you how to download your copy!
“But Adam!” you say, “Does this mean I’ll lose access to articles and courses?”
Not at all. Any products you’ve bought from me, you’ll have forever. If I ever decide to take courses down, I will provide a way for you to download the files locally if you’ve already made a purchase.
While the articles themselves may disappear at a later date – I currently have no plans to take them down.
So, all that being said – let’s hit the major points again…
What’s going on again?
- I’ve started a new project, it’s called nir*media and you can find it at nir.media
- nir*media is about helping musicians and sound designers through the knowledge and skills of others, distilled into a simple & easy format
- It starts today WITH A FREE PLUGIN!
This isn’t eight oil drums worth of change, but…
It is a pretty significant one for me, and I hope you enjoy and get a lot out of it.
Let’s start out by giving you a free plugin. To get it, go to https://suspension.nir.media and sign up. Then you’ll get an email with a download link that will automatically detect your OS and give you the correct download.
Enjoy!
