May 14th, Quit Aspiring

In late December of 2017 I found myself in a funny position.

I was mentoring an awesome guy via The Audio Mentoring Project, helping others via DMs, and had landed what many young outsiders would consider a “dream” job (it’s still a job y’all, but I enjoy the heck out of it).

I found myself answering the same questions, ranting on the same subjects, over and over.

So many people want to do something awesome and yet they’re so panicked over failure and self-doubt that they neuter their opportunities before they even get them.

So I cracked, and decided to write another book (yes, I already have one for audio people who want to start coding).

I started writing it for me. It’s not like the audience for a “get a game audio job” book has a lot of excess cash (students and career changers). I wasn’t expecting to make a dime, but I just had to get the words out of my head.

Not only was I not expecting to profit – I actively anticipated getting rebuked by my peers! (That did actually happen)

But, you know what? Tell me I can’t, or that I shouldn’t do something – and I literally cannot help but prove you wrong.

5 months later, here we are.

My new book – Quit Aspiring – is available for download on May 14th.

It’s entirely likely that the price is going to go up on release day – the only way you have left to lock in the $10 price is to sign up for my email list ASAP.

Should you buy it? I wrote it for you if…

  • You’re struggling to find a foothold in a game audio career
  • You’re currently a student looking for your first job
  • You’re in a completely different career and looking for a change
  • You’re a professional doing linear sound design and want to move into interactive games
  • You also think you’re bad at interviews
  • You are also self-driven, but unsure of what will be the most impactful thing you can do right now
  • You put “aspiring sound designer” in any online bio
  • You’re dying for a career in game audio and spend late night on reddit and slack trying to figure out how to get a job

If you fit any of those, don’t feel ashamed – buy the book. If you hate it, ask me for your money back.

I honestly can’t wait for you to see it. The book has turned from a super difficult chore (how do you write a “get a job” book without sounding like an egotistical a-hole?!), to something I’m crazy proud of.

You’ll get 20+ chapters of my words and advice, a guest chapter on demo reels from Matthew Marteinsson of Klei Entertainment and “Reel Talk” on Twitch (among numerous other things). In addition, you’ll get thoughts and insights from no less than 10 active industry professionals across both AAA and independent gaming.

110%, I want to literally deliver you the best possible work that I can. In 3 weeks, I will!

How do you buy it? One of two ways:

  1. Get on my email list (there’s a signup form where you’ll also get a free 12-page PDF with resources about audio programming). I’ll be emailing out a private link before May 14th for email subscribers only. If you sign up too late, you’re too late.
  2. Wait until May 14th and hit the product page.

If I can do this – I’m convinced you can do anything you set your mind to complete.

I want to help you get there – and I will. If not with this book, then another one or a software product.

I can’t wait to see what you do with this stuff!

As always, shoot any questions to me @adamtcroft
